Collexion

Collexion is an app that I conceptualized as part of my senior project for my degree. All of the work involved is entirely done by me. The main idea that lead to this was that collectors should have a place that allows them to keep track of almost all of their collections in one place where it can be accessed whenever they need it.
My main inspirations were my own frustrations through personal experiences with collecting and a wish to make an app that I would want to use that is efficient, functional, and solve a problem that is meaningful to me, and other collectors as well. This project took about a year from start to finish, and included a majority of what I learned in school, as well as some new skills and I learned a lot.
Logos
Unlike the other projects I have worked on, this project included multiple logos for different situations and placements, and color variations. These variations are all visible here, but they are more easily viewed in the PDF of the project book under "Visual Strategies".

Branding
I used the assets above to create a brand for the app, which in turn, allowed me to prototype the app while keeping the colors and aesthetics similar to the logo and branding. It also allowed me to create marketing product mock-ups and ad mock-ups. I actually had most of the marketing products manufactured to display at my table for our senior class's showcase expo.

A lot of research was conducted before creating any design conceptualization. But thanks to the research done, I was able to figure out what exactly I wanted Collexion to be. Using Adobe XD, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator, I was able to create not only the branding designs, mockups, and layouts, but I was able to actually prototype the app and make it interactive as well.

Data
There was a lot of research that went into this project, including interviews, and a survey that was sent out to various collecting forums and platforms. Based on the data, I created different data charts that match the branding for Collexion.

The data collected showed 32.5% of surveyed people were between the ages of 21-25 years old, 20% are between 26-30 years old. The data shown on the right comes from the survey that was posted online. 200 people participated in this survey from different types of collecting communities and communities with different interests.

The acorn "pie" charts shown above are showing percentages for different questions from the survey. The first "pie" chart represents the percentage of people surveyed who have accidentally purchased a duplicate item that they already owned in their collection.

The second pie chart represents the percentage of people who have more than one type of collection, or a variety of collections. When I came up with this concept, this was one of the few groups I had in mind when thinking about who I wanted to make the app for.

The third pie chart represents percentage of collectors who try to track what they have in their collections, or would like to in the near future. With this in mind, I asked what these people used to track their collections, and if they had any problems or things they didn't like when using the trackers/catalogs they have been using, if they did track what they had. This led to a lot of brainstorming on how to fix or avoid the mentioned issues when creating the prototype and thinking about available functions in the app.
This project was very involved, and it took a lot of time, work, and stress, however, when the senior expo came around, it was so rewarding to share the work I accomplished. All of my work was able to come together and I was able to showcase everything I had learned. It was also really good to learn how the manufacturing process works, and I got to try making some different merchandise. A lot of this newfound knowledge is useful for the future, especially if a time comes where I would need to orchestrate things getting produced and manufactured. This project allowed me to do things I never thought I would be able to do on my own.
