Nordstrom normally uses a timeless black and white logo. However, in order to attract some more attention from a potentially younger audience, eye-catching color is a great start, as well as adding some sort of logo symbol that could stand alone as well.

Branding Guidelines Applied

Using the branding guidelines created can help convey some of the core values in Nordstrom's brand such as luxury, eco-friendliness, innovation, or reliability. These guidelines help visually support the messages Nordstrom wants to convey, while also trying to diversify the intended audience, therefore allowing for new marketing opportunities.

Watching trends is very important for fashion retailers such as Nordstrom. Using Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator, I created mock-ups that help portray what Nordstrom's website, advertisements, and various other corporate branded materials could look like with some trendy and recognizable colors, and provide a slightly more youthful visual identity.

Brand Guidelines Book

Brand Guidelines for the speculative rebrand, designed with Illustrator and InDesign. A physical copy was also printed and handed in as this was an assignment for a class.

Creating this project helped me realize just how much work goes into creating a fleshed out brand from scratch. With zero guidance from a client, and a strict guideline of materials I had to create, it was a lot of effort to create a logo and visual identity that wasn't a mirror of what Nordstrom already is. I also got to experience creating text based layouts and mix it in with photo placements, as well as translating from one print format, to another (Booklet to Pamphlet).
